Going Outside the Four Walls: Connecting with Community Resources

  • Psychotherapy Networker Symposium, Washington, DC Omni Shoreham Hotel Washington United States (map)

Psychotherapy can be a hermetic profession, but therapists are increasingly feeling the need to go beyond the consulting room both to better serve the clients in our practices and expand our vision of the role we can play in the world. The more aware we are of community services and resources, the better we’re able to address our clients’ social disconnection and isolation. Learn how to become a more effective therapist while also promoting social change and community resilience through:

  • Partnering with primary care physicians, yoga experts, mediators, nutritionists, and financial planners and other professionals in your community
  • Using social media platforms as a way to connect clients with other individuals dealing with similar life challenges or wishing to address common social issues
  • Developing projects that enable you to use your therapeutic skills outside the clinical context by partnering with professionals from fields as diverse as law, the performing arts, journalism, oral history and urban design.
